Finnish food promotion campaign

Finland began a multi-year national food promotion campaign in 2008. This campaign, led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, combines the efforts of the food industry, government offices, and several ministries. The campaign focuses primarily on educating consumers and increasing knowledge of the national food culture of Finland. It also includes campaigns abroad like Fresh! from Finland here in the U.S.

The goals of the campaign are to increase appreciation of Finnish food and food culture, increase the use of local and organic food, educate consumers about eating healthy and enjoying the food they eat, and to support the international activities of the Finnish food industry.

Here are few elements of the campaign:

  • Encouraging the use of locally produced and organic food in workplace cafeterias
  • Educating school children about food culture through increasing the amount of cooking classes and nutritional education in schools
  • Encouraging parents and teachers to share meals together with children to teach the importance of eating healthy from an early age
  • Supporting production and marketing of local and organic products
  • Supporting food industry professionals on educating and promoting Finland’s food culture.
  • Supporting the efforts of the Finnish food industry to increase international exports
